If you are responsible for undertaking a development at a school or educational establishment it is likely that you will be aware of the requirements for acoustics to be considered. Since 2003 anyone proposing developments in schools has had to ensure that their proposals comply with Building Bulletin 93 (Part E of Building Regulations 2000). Since then the evidence has grown , most significantly the recent publication of the “Essex Study” has clearly shown that low reverberation times are associated with good learning environments; given the strength of the evidence base, we now encourage our clients to surpass the requirements of BB93 and indeed work to the requirements of the Association of Noise Consultants Good Practice Guide.
As a consultancy with expertise in many areas of acoustics, we have been offering acoustic advice for design and specification to schools area for almost twenty years. During this time we have worked on many different projects for schools and educational facilities.
